Clean water, rich in vitality, is indispensable for creating, maintaining and sustaining good health. In this article, I focus specifically on the declining quality of water in the U.S. and some steps you can take to improve the quality of the water you drink. However, the serious degradation and depletion of available fresh water sources is a global problem.
Key Points to Consider
The following highlights have all been supported by documentation from numerous sources over decades:
- The quality of surface and ground water has been steadily declining because of disappearing natural habitats and chemical pollutants resulting from agriculture and industry.
- Chemicals in pharmaceuticals, personal care products, and cleaning agents, used in millions upon millions households, are finding their way into available water resources.
- Synthetic chemical pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers used in gardens and on lawns across the nation are further exacerbating the problem.
- Public water systems are not required to filter out many toxins and impurities from municipal water supplies.
- The regulatory agencies responsible for ensuring water safety use inadequate parameters and have been known to tread lightly with suppliers when they fail inspections.
- Thousands of communities are too poor to upgrade their water systems even after serious problems have been identified.
- Many people have turned to bottled water. Often this is of no better quality than tap water in communities with intact water systems. It costs the buyer dearly, the plastic bottles leach toxic chemicals and, when disposed of, have a huge negative impact on environmental quality.
- Recycling requires the use of energy resources, reuse does not. Therefore use safe water containers, such as those made with glass. Avoid plastic bottles.
The Deeper Dimension of the Water Element
In the tradition of Eastern spirituality and medicine, clean, moving water contains health-bestowing life force energy (prana, qi/chi, ki); while polluted, stagnant water has turbid, illness-inducing prana|qi/chi|ki.
In the tradition of Western esotericism, the energetic and informational qualities of water have been recognized and practically applied since time immemorial.
In her article, “Hydrotherapy: The Gift of Water”, Laura France-Haynes writes:
>>In ancient times, the spiritual qualities of water were perceived more directly. People spoke of water sprites and undines [nature beings], experiencing the living qualities inherent in water. We can observe these qualities ourselves – the tumbling streams that seem to speak in mellifluous voices, while deep pools have resonant and reflective tones. People of ancient Greece honored those groves which were homes to sacred springs and pools; perhaps the calm surface of a pool gave rise to oracular experiences. At the pool of Bethsaida, the water became healing only when the angelic spirit moved it. Everywhere in earlier times there was recognition of the fluid element, both as a spiritual mirror and as healing substance.
We now live in a world which actively pollutes streams, lakes, and even oceans, and our tap water is cut off from the air and the sunlight, which would otherwise do so much to enliven it naturally. Our question must be how can we make water a therapeutic element again?<<
Medicinal Use of Water
Clean water, full of life force or vitality, has clear implications for preventive and curative medicine. To safeguard or regain your health, to increase your vitality, please consider the following practical suggestions:
- Purchase a water filtration system to benefit the entire household.
- Use glass containers and avoid using bottled water in plastic containers to safeguard human health and spare the environment further degradation.
- Use natural fertilizers and pest-control measures for your garden and lawn. Avoid artificial fertilizers and synthetic chemical pesticides and herbicides.
- Take pharmaceutical and over-the-counter medications sparingly and do not dispose of unused products in fresh water sources or the public water system.
- Support advocacy initiatives to create and enforce government regulations that truly serve to improve water quality.
- Support environmental education initiatives based on science from independent, reliable sources.
